Reservoirs, Tanks
Hydraulic Reservoirs, Holding In Reserve Enough Fluid to Supply Your Hydraulic System’s Varying Needs.
In addition to a reservoir acting as a fluid container, a reservoir serves also to cool the fluid, to allow contamination to settle out, and to allow entrained air to escape. The typical reservoir is constructed of welded steel plate.
Each type can have its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to your design considerations and which to use. Allowing for heat dissipation is the main reason to design the tank bottom off the floor. A larger tank is desirable to promote cooling while allowing contaminants to separate.
However, a reservoir can play several major roles including:
- To cool the fluid (Heat Exchanger)
- To remove solid particles (Filter)
- To remove air and gases (Deaerator)
- To remove water (Dehydrator)
Remember a reservoir does much more than just provide a place to put system fluid. A well-designed reservoir dissipates heat, allows time for contamination to drop out of the fluid, and allows air bubbles to come to the surface and dissipate, all while providing a positive suction head pressure to the pump.
If the standard reservoir design cannot be used GS Global Resources can modify or custom design (view GSGR Engineered Solutions) a reservoir that is specific to your application needs.

-
L-Shaped Reservoir
L-shaped reservoirs allow motor pumps to mount beside the tank for flooded suction, ensuring cold-weather reliability and extra space for valves, filtration, and components.

T-Shaped Reservoir
T-shaped reservoirs offer cold-weather flooded suction benefits and provide redundancy for pumps or additional components, enhancing system reliability and flexibility.

JIC Style Reservoir
JIC style vertical reservoirs offer compact hydraulic storage, allow top-mounted components, and are not designed for flooded pump inlet suction.

Vertical Style Reservoir
Vertical non-JIC reservoirs maximize space efficiency, offer 10–40 gallon options, and support custom lids for diverse motor pump configurations.
