Breathers

Filtering the Air. Breathers Prevent Ambient Air from Entering the Reservoir Unless it has been Filtered.

The function of the filler-breather is to clean any air that enters the reservoir as the fluid level drops from normal system cycling. It is imperative that good filtration is provided to clean the incoming air.

Open-circuit hydraulic systems need breathers, so air can exit and enter the reservoir as the fluid level rises and falls.

In addition to removing airborne dirt, some types of breathers are designed to remove the moisture from the incoming air.

Types:

Air Breathers – Are vital to the cleanliness of the hydraulic reservoir and fluid. Air contains microscopic particles and microorganisms that can cause severe damage to hydraulic components if not removed from the air prior to it entering the reservoir. As a rule, remember that is costs ten times more to remove contamination from hydraulic fluid than it does to prevent contamination from entering the reservoir in the first place.

Desiccant Breathers – Contain a filter to trap airborne particles, and a desiccant dries the air by absorbing moisture contained in the air.

Filler Breathers – Prevent contamination and water from the surrounding from entering into the system.

Metal Filler Breathers – Designed to be used as filler ports for hydraulic reservoirs, allowing the reservoir to breathe whilst protecting it from contamination found in harsh environments

Reservoir Breather Filters – Provide precision hydraulic components with special protection against wear particles and destructive moisture.  The use of reservoir breather filters is especially critical in high humidity areas or where moisture is present near hydraulic systems. A breather reservoir (inhales and exhales as the fluid level changes in the operating system), is intended for industrial applications and operates at atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric dirt is one of the major sources of fluid contamination.

Spin-on Breathers – High capacity air breathers designed for the removal of airborne contamination in hydraulic systems to support environmental maintenance. Ideal for high flow systems and heavily contaminated environments.

Tank Breather Filter – Providing protection against airborne moisture and particulate contamination.
