Valve Build Programs Help Heavy Equipment OEMs Move Faster

For heavy equipment OEMs, the pressure to shorten lead times, control costs, and keep machines moving has never been greater. That is exactly where custom valve build programs create value: they help OEMs get the right hydraulic solution faster, with more flexibility and less inventory risk. GS Global Resources VP of Sales and Marketing Mark Torbett says that lead times are a real critical issue and many manufacturers simply do not stock the full range of products OEMs need when demand changes quickly.

GSGR has turned that challenge into an advantage by creating partnerships with industry leading valve manufacturers to maintain an on-hand supply of necessary components for our customers’ specific hydraulic needs. Torbett says they work closely with our OEM customer base to fully understand their machine and design a valve assembly that can include a custom manifold or other unique features.

Torbett says, “we utilize components and subcomponents that are already here,” which allows the team to create a complete valve assembly in “about 3 to 4” weeks instead of the “20 weeks” OEMs may face otherwise.

Why Build Programs Matter

Valve build programs are valuable because they give OEMs the opportunity to get custom hydraulics tailored to their machine needs, without lengthy lead times and excessive costs. They let manufacturers tailor performance to the application without carrying excessive inventory or waiting months for critical parts. Torbett noted that the goal is to deliver “valve packages that are affordable in a very quick time frame,” something that is usually hard to achieve at the same time.

That flexibility is especially important in heavy equipment, where applications vary widely across forestry, construction, cranes, and other mobile markets. GS Global Resources supports both high-performance solutions and other sectional valve programs for applications that do not require premium complexity. As Torbett put it, “some machines don’t need that type of valve,” so GSGR has built options that fit the job instead of forcing OEMs into a one-size-fits-all solution.

These type of programs can also help OEMs to scale intelligently. Torbett described the build program as a way to support “good, better” machine strategies while improving cash flow and reducing the need for long-term inventory planning. For purchasing teams, that means more predictable ordering; for engineering, it means faster changes without “wrecking supply chains.”

The Right Partner

GS Global Resources stands out because it brings both product breadth and application knowledge to the table. We have a system-level approach that allows us to focus on more than just a valve in isolation; but we also focus on the integrated controls and hydraulic functionality put together. Torbett emphasized that “electronics cannot fix poor hydraulics,” and that the right spool and valve function must be matched to the application from the start.

That mindset matters because it leads to cleaner, more serviceable machine designs with fewer connectors, less plumbing, and easier diagnostics. GSGR can integrate pressure transducers, diagnostic equipment, CAN bus controls, and electro-proportional valve solutions into a coordinated package. In short, GSGR helps OEMs build machines that perform better because the hydraulics and controls were designed to work together.
