Configurable Switch Panels for Different Space Constraints & Color Combinations

Working with the available space is one of the biggest challenges for heavy equipment OEMs when determining the controls layout for an operator station. Standard, cookie cutter switches and switch panel designs simply may not work for either the armrest, dashboard, or console either within the cab or elsewhere on the machine. In some cases, there may simply not be enough space for all of the necessary machine functions, without compromising ergonomics.

The ability to configure a switch panel to fit your specific space constraints, as well as program those switches to control different functions depending on the state of the machine, idle vs working for example, is critical in order to achieve the ideal operator control station.

The GS Global Resources engineering team has experience creating and programming custom switch panels ranging from 1×3 inch designs to 2×6 inch layouts. VP of Engineering Josh Heinz says we are also able to arrange switches in unique shapes and patterns in order to best fit the available space.

“We’ll get a specification for a new piece of equipment which might have 15 or 20 different digital IO points and we have to really understand when each of those will be used. So we can combine locations, put a generic symbol or icon on the switch, and then switch modes,” Heinz says.

GS Global Resources has developed our own custom switch panels for over 15 years and we are currently developing a new version with an RGB type switch, allowing us to change the colors based on customer specifications. It will have 10 standard colors built in and the user can change the switch color based on their machine branding.
