Advanced Armrest Manufacturing Techniques
“We’re able to 3D print and utilize a CNC machine to create different components and fixtures that help us to rapid prototype any component that would be integrated into an armrest.”
Manufacturing techniques are constantly improving and evolving, including the ability to 3D print using a wide variety of materials. At GS Global Resources, we are taking full advantage of those tools and have made significant capital investments to support rapid prototyping of custom components for a variety of solutions, including armrests. Our VP of Engineering, Josh Heinz, says this extends beyond smaller components, thanks to our newest printer, into full armrest assemblies. We utilize multiple 3D printers and now have one with a printing bed that measures 2 feet deep, 4 ft wide and 2.5 ft tall, allowing us to print an entire armrest as large as 24 inches long.
“The ability to create those components in a day, or a few days, and test fit up a component let’s us come to market insanely fast.”
We know that to make critical machine design decisions, it’s enormously beneficial for OEMs to be able to fully experience some components, particularly an armrest which has a huge impact on overall operator ergonomics. And because ergonomics is top priority for heavy machinery armrests, we fully analyze each of our custom solutions optimizing it for all body types, supporting turn and lift functions, and much more.
