Multi-Person Cab Designed for a Directional Drilling Machine, With Extremely High Visibility, 20 Foot Width, and Custom Seat Assembly

Whether you’re looking to do a complete cab redesign, or simply address some system issues, there are many decisions that need to be made and a number of new issues that will arise throughout production. Take a look at the video below as one of the GS Global Resources Mechanical Project Engineers discusses a cab prototype in which our team was incredibly hands on and worked closely with the OEM at every phase, from initial redesign concepts to final modifications in the field.

What GS was able to do was take the OEM’s initial concept and really refine all the operator needs and how they were addressed with the cab design, including line of sight, interior materials, and operator comfort. For example, with the increase in window surface area, the heat load on the cab was a big concern. Our engineers spent a lot of time fine-tuning the HVAC system, including time spent at the job site of one of the OEM’s customers, so that it had the capability to maintain a comfortable temperature for the operator, despite the structural changes.
