Making of an Armrest: Molding & Plastics

“A lot of our customers are looking for solutions that don’t appear intimidating. So the way we do plastics here give armrests a more rounded look and a texture that’s very comfortable and approachable.”

As the main control station for heavy machinery operators, efficiency, innovation, and ergonomics must be top priority when designing armrests and consoles. The process of designing a custom armrest or arm pod, or redesigning an existing solution, is a very complex process. From plastics and ergonomics to custom electronic integration, we have the experience and knowledge base to get you a solution that’s unique to your machine needs.

When you’re looking to create a new armrest or console for your machine, you’ll need to decide between vacuum or injection molding. Vacuum molding is more affordable and by utilizing custom plates, we can do it in a way that is very repeatable and allows for customizations across a full machine line. Injection molding, on the other hand, really requires that you have a finalized solution, as changes can be very costly.

In this video, one of the designers on our engineering team talks through how we approach plastics for all of our solutions, including armrests. Contact us today to find out how we can create a custom component that will bring your machine into the future.
