Inside GS: Total Machine Control

“Even though the request was a joystick, what an OEM really needs is a more integrated control system for the operator.”

Joysticks are unique to each machine and application. As the primary touchpoint for an operator, it can be tempting to utilize that for every aspect of machine control. But in order to maintain optimal ergonomics, more creative control solutions must be utilized, whether that’s through an expansive armrest assembly, or an attached programmable display, among other things. By utilizing J1939 CAN communication, our engineers can create a full seat assembly that acts as a central control station for an operator, while simultaneously minimizing pin count and decreasing wiring. This not only reduces the chance of failure mode, but also lowers wire harnessing cost. Because of our experience with both programmable CAN joystick assemblies, as well as IQAN by Parker Hannifin and machine communication, we can take a single component and turn that into a full control system that creates true market value for both the OEM and the end user.
