Hydraulic Build Programs Produce Custom Solutions Faster & More Cost Effectively

Opportunity:

Getting custom hydraulics and controls to OEMs faster and cost-effectively is a top priority for GS Global Resources, and a constant area of growth and opportunity. Particularly with the dynamic supply chain environment that all manufacturers are currently having to navigate, our team sought out creative ways to improve lead times, specifically with custom valving solutions.

Solution:

Our engineering and operations teams worked with suppliers to take previous specifications for complete valve assemblies and break down all of the parts necessary to build that final solution. We went through every section of a valve assembly, from the inlet and endplate to the work sections, including all spools, coils, and everything needed to build the finished solution. We were then able to determine how to build that same valve assembly, using readily available parts of which we have worked to build up our inventory supply. Although this modified assembly may have some cosmetic differences, it is functionally identical to the original valve design.

Since its inception, we have had more than five OEMs utilize the build program and seen both cost savings and shorter production time. It has allowed GSGR to become more versatile, given us an edge during the current dynamic supply chain environment, and helped us create custom solutions for OEMs much faster and cost effectively.

Result:

• We were able to create a scalable build program that is easily adjusted for different OEMs.
• Our engineering team is able to adjust a custom valve assembly that functions in the exact same way, but at a cost savings to customers.
• Our production team is able to create custom valving solutions and get them out the door faster, so that our customers receive custom components faster.
